IO PAN Scientific Diving TEAM
Here at IO PAN diving is one of our main research tools. The team consists of 15+ researchers, mostly with marine biology background. Among us there are several professors, diving instructors, commercial as well as “early career” divers, all linked together by shared projects and the love for diving. Trained in several agencies including CMAS, IANTD, GUE, SSI, and PADI, diving since the 1990s, we are still improving our diving techniques by conducting research tasks in various, sometimes challenging environments (e.g. during the polar night). From the scientific point of view the key field of our competence and interest is biodiversity and ecosystem responses to climate change. Many studies concern the role of ecosystem engineers in the functioning of benthic communities; processes of colonization and succession on rocky bottom and factors controlling them... Focus on polar regions (both Arctic and Antarcic) from the begining made cold water diving our main domain of activity.
We were the host of the 5th European Conference on Scientific Diving, the first conference of this type in Poland. On the initiative of the IO PAN Scientific Diving TEAM, the Polish Committee on Scientific Diving was established (link). |
